Timeline
Significant milestones to note:
2002 - Tajiguas Landfill received a new operating permit to expand capacity by 8.2 million cubic yards; And the County Board of Supervisors indicated they were not desirous of expanding the landfill again.
2007 - Regional effort was established to study feasibility of some type of conversion technology to lessen the region’s dependence on landfilling. The effort included the County of Santa Barbara, and the Cities of Santa Barbara, Goleta, Solvang and Buellton.
2007-2008 - Coordinate with Cities of Santa Barbara, Goleta, Buellton, Solvang into project team; obtain input on community values and options
2009 - Develop Request for Proposals based on project goals, approved by Board of Supervisors and all City Councils in the Study area.
2010 - Responses to RFP’s received, evaluated
2011 - Committee of Elected Officials requests public input on 3 proposals (2 vendors), and selection of preferred project by County Board of Supervisors & City Councils.
2012 - Notice of Preparation of an Environmental Impact Report
2013 - Development of Draft Environmental Impact Report
2014 - Release of Draft Environmental Impact Report and Public Comment Received
